Aum Kinzangmo, 36, lives with her three children, husband, and her parents in the heart of Buli village in Bhutan’s Zhemgang Dzongkhag district. As a progressive farmer, Aum Kinzangmo cultivates a variety of vegetables in her 30 decimal kitchen garden. This enables her to earn a decent income by selling her produce to the nearby dratshang (monastic school), the local market, as well as the Buli Central School where her children are students. This income helps her meet her daily household expenses while also allowing her to save some money in her bank account.


In August 2020, monsoon rains caused devastating flooding in Sindh Province in Pakistan, leading to the Government of Sindh announcing a state of emergency as 2.5 million people were affected.

The floods had a destructive impact on the livelihood of many people, just like Waliyan Resham. She is a 68-year-old widow and mother who, since the death of her husband, has been taking care of her two children with special needs all by herself.

WFP and partners celebrate World Food Day with an important message on nutrition and diet

This year, the World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) jointly celebrated World Food Day — 16 October — with an event that placed ending malnutrition and ensuring food security and healthy diets for all centre stage.

Among the audience were around 100 students and teachers, as well as representatives from the Government of Sri Lanka, UN agencies, the private sector, and development organizations. Sri Lanka cricket captain and ICC Elite Panel Referee Roshan Mahanama was there too.

For Manulete, a remote mountain town 70 km southwest of the capital city, Dili, the busiest place is always its health post. Every day, in the shadows of Mt Ramelau, Timor-Leste’s highest peak, a steady stream of mothers, fathers with their children passes through.
